PA Safety & Emissions Inspections

Philadelphia State Inspection Station

Pennsylvania requires safety and emissions testing every year for most vehicles. In order to renew registration, your vehicle must pass both inspections. The PA state inspection must be performed at an official PennDOT Inspection Station to qualify.

Mina Motors is an authorized PA inspection station serving Philadelphia, PA, South Philadelphia, PA, Center City, and surrounding areas.

We provide safety inspections and emissions inspections.

What Gets Checked During the Safety Inspection?

During your safety inspection, an authorized mechanic at Mina Motors will check the following:

  • Suspension
  • Steering
  • Braking Systems
  • Tires & Wheels
  • Lighting & Electrical Systems
  • Glazing (glass)
  • Mirrors
  • Windshield Washer Fluid, Defroster & Wipers

An emissions test should be performed at the same time as your safety inspection, if not earlier. What Happens if My Vehicle Doesn't Pass the State Inspection?

If your vehicle fails one or both inspections, the service technician can answer any questions you have, explain the problem and repair service needed, and re-inspect your vehicle within 30 days after repairs have been made.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Website states:

Your re-inspection will be free, as long as you have it done within 30 days at the same place that conducted the initial inspection. If your car still doesn't pass the inspection, and you can show that you have spent at least $150 on emissions-related repairs, you may be eligible for a one-year waiver.

In some cases, you may have to spend more if the repair is the only reasonable way to address the problem, such as replacing a catalytic converter. You must obtain an emissions sticker or a waiver from a certified inspection station and pass a safety inspection before a permanent safety inspection sticker can be applied to your vehicle.

Visit Mina Motors when it's time for your PA state inspection. Call (215) 735-2749 for availability or more information on the safety inspection or emissions test. We're happy to answer any questions you have.
